Billy : any hidden messages in your lyrics? Kris kraai : no, have you found some? Billy : yes. when you sing about that part of you, I think you mean your backside. Because you earth people can't see your own backside, isn't it. Kris kraai : You mean Martians can? Billy : Yes, let me show you (Billy gets up and contorts himself). Kris kraai : oh, wow, you can fit yourself into a very small box, too, can't you? Billy : Yea, all Martian can do that. Kris kraai : Amazing. But 'that part of you' refers to a more emotionally abstract issue. Silence. Billy : OK. Billy : but you do have other hidden messages in your songs dont you? Kris kraai : like what? Billy : When you say, 'taste of empty reassure', you aren't talking about that Martian salad you had the other night are you? We Martians perfected the zero calorie foods. Kris kraai : kris kraai laughs. Martians dont understand my music. Billy : Martians love your music. Every day more that 7 million Martians eat your mp3's. Kris kraai : That is wonderful!Billy : Yes. We also have a large distortion-intolerant population here. Kris kraai : That figures. Billy : But my wife says that the hiss on some of your songs, give her a little heartburn, just a little. Kris kraai : Oh, tell her I'm sorry. I will soon record a new menu, it will include hiss free songs for hiss intolerant individuals. Billy : Though my greatgreatgreat grandfather likes the hiss. He says that it tastes allot like the good old days. They don't make them like they used to. Kris kraai : Well, yes. Like an old record I suppose. Billy : Yes. Those are sold on the black market here on mars. Kris kraai : Why so. Billy : It gets Martians high you know. Kris kraai : So, how many mp3's can an average Martian eat a day. Billy : Depends on what other impressions he consumes. But I have a very fat brother, who ate 100 of your mp3's just yesterday. Kris kraai : That's alot? Billy : Yes, he wanted to unsubscribe himself afterwards. But I told him that you will be offended, so he declined. You know us Martians are very considerate beings. Kris kraai : Thanks Billy. Tell him to go easy on the stuff. Billy : You know, Martians are divided about earth. Some believe that we should maintain it as a harvest planet, while others like myself want to free the people. Kris kraai : Is it possible to free it and keep it as a harvesting planet. Billy : No. The reason is that a place like earth provides the ideal fertilizer, due to all the suffering and misunderstanding over there, you know. Earth breeds artists like you, who grows some good food. Kris kraai : Is mars causing all the suffering on earth? Billy : No. We just leave you guys alone, like a self-sustaining green house, and see what happens. But actually, the laws of the universe insures that there will always be places like earth who are deep in the shits. So we don't need the earth farm - per se. We have other places. Kris kraai : So, why don't you guys free earth? Billy : I think it is because some Martian entrepreneurs have invested too much in earth. They think that there is a good 100 years or so left in the place, before it will self-destruct. They are already investing in other planets. They just don't care about the individual people of your planet. Kris kraai : That's not very encouraging for us poor earthlings. I believe we will not self-destruct. I believe we will eventually overcome our problems. After all, as you say, it is just fertilizer. Billy : So, enough about earth. What about your art. How would you describe it. What is your theme? Kris kraai : It plays around some existential questions. Rather, it tells stories about existential questions. After all, a folk singer is always just a story teller. But he tells true stories. Billy : What is the story in around and around? Kris kraai : That, actually, it seems that everything we do, comes to naught. It is just in honest relationships that we maintain something worthwhile. What that something is, I don't exactly know. Some people will call it love, or compassion. But I keep it a mystery...life keeps it an enigma. Billy : Are you a Nihilist? Do you believe nothing matters? Kris kraai : No. I believe that if something is going to matter to you, it will be that mystery that was spoken of. And that will always matter.Billy : Well, thanks for joining us on the late night show. I hope things go well in your ‘save the earth' cause here on mars. I support you 100%. Kris kraai : Thanks Billy. Thanks for having me. Who is your next guest?Billy : It will be leader of the ‘equal rights for red ants' campaign. They are anti-specimenists. Kris kraai : It is almost 7am Sa time on earth. I need to travel back to my bed. Nice being on your show.Bill: Good night. Kris kraai: Good night.
